Sand Medium

I think the “modelling” substance could be a number of things, with more reflective being best of course. It would be fun to try:

  • Damp sand (so, castles)
  • Homemade kinetic sand (Cornstarch and water. Would need to be refreshed else get's moldy.)
  • Commercial kinetic sand (v. good option, but expensive, several hundred $)
  • Popcorn (yum)
  • Rice
  • Salt, sugar (oh oh)
  • Styrofoam beads (horrible to clean though!)
  • Powdered cement
  • Commercial sand (suggested by SidRock): Target Products: 800-575-0500
  • Glass, like used in sandblasting (SidRock): Mannis Abrasives (sp), 800-661-3842, x1 for Edmonton

Phase II

Partner with 3D scanner and printer so can save your best builds as a souvenir.

There is a rudimentary export utility LWOWriter. It captures raw kinect video 3D stream so it's pretty noisy, but a good place to start:
